Parish Services

A small portion (approximately 5%) of the Council tax paid by Cholsey residents goes to the Parish Council. The Council usually meets every three weeks– you can find agendas and past minutes on the Meetings page of our web site. These give a sense of the varied things we are involved in, which include:

 

• Employing the parish office team who carry out a variety of roles including clerking, financial management, estate management and burials management.

• Employing the Children’s Centre staff who run the Happy Hub, and a Mental Health Support Worker who runs a weekly ‘drop in’ session on Wednesday mornings at the Pavilion.

• Team members also include the Environmental Coordinator who oversees the Cholsey Environmental Champion (CHEC) groups

• The Council manages the recreation ground including play areas and skatepark, the Forty, three allotment sites in the village, and burials in the church burial grounds. We are also responsible for facilities including certain bus shelters, defibrillators, and dog poo bins.

 

• Cholsey Parish Council owns the Pavilion building which is managed by the Pavilion Trust. We have provided grants to a variety of community services including the Library, Youth Club and the Day Centre for an Older Person’s Support Worker.

• The Council’s Neighbourhood Plan working group developed the Cholsey Neighbourhood Plan, and continues to ensure it is up-to-date and valid. The Council brought together a team to defend Cholsey’s Neighbourhood Plan, against Leavesley’s planning appeal for the Cholsey Fields development, which is not part of the Neighbourhood or wider Local Plan.

• The Council’s Transport Plan working group are actively developing a Transport Plan for Cholsey, which will sit within the Council’s 5-year strategic plan.

• While South Oxfordshire District Council is responsible for planning decisions, the Parish Council provides input on all relevant applications, based on the Councillors knowledge of planning and the made Neighbourhood Plan.
